The trail starts 1 km from the exit from Sangeorz-Bai resort, on DN17D, towards Rodna. There is a tourist panel of Rodna Mountains National Park and a signpost indicating the starting point of the long trail. Cross the railway and continue through the village of Cormaia. After 8 km, reach a junction called ‘La Birtut’ (The pub). This is where PR trail (Trail 20) climbs the ridge up to Saua La Izvoare saddle and just 150 m away you find Cabana Farmecul Padurii hut and a guesthouse. Continue along the stream (the red triangle trail markers occasionally appear on power posts that supply a quarry located higher, ~ 2.5 km). The forest road on Valea Cormaia valley takes you on one side and the other of the valley with beautiful waterfalls on the rocky slopes. The valley often narrows and looks like a gorge. It is probably the most spectacular of all the southern valleys of the massif. After 10 km from the intersection with Cabana Farmecul Padurii hut, reach the end of the dirt road. A former road climbs higher, but it has been destroyed by floods in some places, so you have to cross the water (4-5 times). After about an hour from the end of the dirt road, cross the water for the last time and continue on a path located on the right side of the valley. This leads you to a sheepfold (about 25 minutes). Trail markers are still rare, but you can see them, from time to time, on the rocks. There are many paths used by shepherds in the area, but it is important to note that you have to climb somewhat parallel to the river on your right. After one more hour of ascent from the sheepfold reach a confluence. Next, turn left and steeply climb to the saddle between Varful Cormaia peak (right) and Varful Tapului peak (left). Up in the saddle, come across BA trail (Trail 18) which comes from Sangeorz-Bai, on the longest southern ridge. When you are just a few meters below the saddle, you can see an arrow drawn on a flagstone. Walk around Varful Cormaia peak (on its western slope) and soon come across BR trail (Trail 1), climbing to Repede and Cormaia peaks. After about half an hour from the saddle where TR and BA trails meet, reach Saua Obarsia Rebrii saddle. There is a signpost on the saddle, and you also come across the version of BR trail that goes around the northeastern side of the peaks mentioned above.
