The easiest starting point to the red stripe trail is from the yellow stripe trail linking Baile Herculane (Pecinisca district) to the main ridge of the Mehedinti Mountains. The trail starts from the intersection of 67D national road with the road leading to the new trout farm in Baile Herculane. From the intersection take the road to the trout farm and about 400 m before you reach it, the trail veers to the right between some houses on the opposite side of Saliste brook. Cross the brook, walk past these houses and continue climbing the road ahead. The road winds up through the forest. Walk through a forested area and reach a meadow with sheepfolds. Continue up through this meadow and the road intersects the main ridge of the Mehedinti Mountain and the red stripe trail. Continue along the ridge trail, which overlaps with a forest road. Cross Ferigari Valley spring, then past Musuroane Meadow and Padina Saddle. The red stripe trail stops suddenly once you reach Balta Cerbului Meadow. From here, to reach the second segment of the ridge trail, you follow the blue triangle marking to Tasna Meadow, where you meet it again.
