From Pietrele hut, walk up along Valea Stanisoara valley (past Stanisoara Villa), through the forest. The path follows the valley upstream, gradually gaining altitude. After getting out from the spruce forest, there is a very beautiful area with meadows, dwarf pines and junipers, stone slabs, lonely spruce trees. When you get to Stanisoara lake, have a well-deserved break and then change direction to the right (west). A steep climb takes you up to Retezat saddle, where you come across the path that follows Custura Retezatului ridge, marked with red and yellow stripe (Trails 2 and 19), as well as the nature reserve border signs (red square). Change direction again and walk to the right (north) in order to climb Retezat peak, following the trail markers on stone slabs. At the top, on clear days, your effort is rewarded with a beautiful view in all directions.
