This collection of maps made by Schubert & Franzke Publishing House is a bold attempt to bring bike trails in Bukovina together in a single map. Bukovina is a historical region of great tourism potential (cultural and ethnographic). Bicycle trails were described between 2018 and 2020, in collaboration with Vatra Dornei Mountain Rescue.
The region of Bukovina is famous in the country and abroad for its churches and monasteries with diverse frescoes, mural paintings that stand out through the great durability of the blue pigment (‘Voronet blue’), included in the UNESCO heritage and in the catalog of Great Monuments of the World. It also home to the oldest wooden church in Europe - Putna Hermitage, with Dragos Voda wooden church. The museum village of Ciocanesti holds a special place, with over 600 houses painted with folk motifs, similarly to the tradition of the painted eggs that has been practiced in Bukovina for centuries.
Bukovina cycling map is numbered MB05, being the fifth in the series of bicycle touring maps.
The map was edited using the latest mapping techniques and it was printed on moisture-resistant paper. It is easy to read and easy to use due to the cartographic representation styles, specific to Schubert & Franzke, and to the practical structuring of the information it contains. Everything is at hand, just where necessary, being useful to cycling enthusiasts.
All trails are based on GPS tracks. These are described in detail in Romanian and English, some trails having representative images attached. Each trail has a technical box containing: trail checked on site, profile with significant landmarks, difficulty, length, total ascent, total descent, etc. The map also contains a UTM grid, a metric coordinate system, being useful in the rapid measurement of distances on the map. Shading and contour lines highlight the terrain, facilitating orientation.
Enjoy this map up on the sunny mountains.
