Description

This trail requires good physical strength, with great difference in elevation and rough terrain, posing orientation problems in winter and in bad weather. It is important to know that there is no source of water on Ciubotea Valley.

The trail starts from Brasov-Campulung national road, from the intersection with the road to Poarta-Bran village. Walk through the village of Poarta (about 3.5 km) and enjoy the panoramic view of Rucar-Bran Pass and Piatra Craiului Mountains. Walk along Poarta brook and the forest road to Ciubotea Mountain Rescue Hut, where you take the marked path. Continue through the forest to a long meadow where there is an abandoned forest lodge From the upper part of the meadow follow the steep path up on Muchia Urlatoarea Clincii edge, on the slope facing Urlatoarea Mica Valley.

The path goes up steeply and after 45-50 minutes from Ciubotea Meadow, reach Ciubotea Valley from where you can see Ciubotea Fangs. Walk below a rocky area with dwarf pines and go out into a small saddle at the bottom edge of the middle corrie of the valley. You can see Tiganesti Towers in the distance. Continue the steep climb and get on Scara Ridge, on the wide platform of Spintecaturilor Bridge. Scara Peak (2,421 m) rises to the east, not far.

Soon get on Scara Peak (2,422 m), where you can see the traces of a former hemispherical mountain hut destroyed by the wind, connection with trail 21 (climbing from Clincea Meadow). Continue through Hornurilor Saddle on the northern slope of Mount Bucsoiu and get to Omu Hut (2,507 m), the highest hut in the Carpathians. Omu Weather Station is next to the hut, being the highest permanent dwelling in Romania.
