From Dambul Morii follow the road towards the Seven Stairs Canyon. Before the road barrier, a signpost indicates left for Bunloc hut (intersection with Trails 2, 3 and 5). Trail 2 continues to the left. Follow the road for about 160 meters (alongside Trails 3 and 5). After the information board and the barrier on Sipoaia Valley, Trail 3 continues to the left. Walk straight ahead along the road (alongside Trail 5) for about 185 meters. Trail 5 continues straight ahead. Veer left (you can see the signposts). Cross Sipoaia stream over a wooden bridge and 240 meters further go into the forest. Trail markers follow the forest road along the river for 1.2 km. Turn left and after three coils (376 m, 10.2% slope) reach the first wooden bench (950 m). Continue climbing the hill and 650 meters further get to the second wooden bench (1,045 m) and another 550 meters take you to the third one (1,125 m). From here, climb another 500 meters on the ridge. A slightly upward contour line takes you to another ridge at an elevation of 1,245 m, above Sirul Stancilor rock formation (intersection with Trail 21, wooden bench). Turn left and 270 meters further come across Trail 20, coming from the left. Continue along the ridge for 600 meters, walk past a temporary source and another 700 meters further reach Baciului/Livezii meadow (intersection with Trail 19). From here, the way to the hut is common with that of Trail 19. The road takes you along the ridge for about 570 meters and continues straight ahead (1,577 m). Here, there is a variation of the trail. One route continues along a slightly upward contour line to the left, for 100 meters, and veers right up through Piatra Mare hut meadow. Walk 240 meters and reach Piatra Mare hut. The original route continues on a corridor through the forest for 215 meters (21.6% slope) and takes you to the western end of Piatra Mare hut meadow (intersection with Trail 5). Turn left, walk past a spring in 20 meters, and 50 meters further reach Piatra Mare hut, at an elevation of 1,630 m (intersection with Trail 18). From the hut, climb 100 meters through the meadow (alongside Trail 22), get into the forest and climb to the saddle west of Sura de Piatra peak. The contour line takes you around the secondary ridge of Sura de Piatra peak (you can climb the first meadow to the right on the unmarked path to Sura de Piatra arch) to the end of the eastern ridge of Sura de Piatra. Trail 22 continues to the left (you are now at an elevation of about 1,660 m). Go up the wooded ridge for approximately 260 meters until you reach the alpine area. A rocky corridor takes you to a saddle below the western wall of Piatra Mare. Turn right and climb through an area with scree for about 80 meters (48.1% slope). Reach the edge of the plateau with the 1,790 m high peak. From here, the path gently climbs 320 meters to the intersection with Trail 8 (1,827 m) and continues for 400 meters up to Piatra Mare Peak (1,844 m).
