Poiana Tapului is part of Busteni town and its location provides it with a stimulating climate with an athmospheric ionization recommended for recreation and rest and for the treatment of neurosis, physical and intellectual overwork. The royal traces are also visible here, being located close to Peles, Pelisor and the Royal Sheepfold Meadow.
An easy route, recommended for beginners and for those who do not want or can not make too much effort, trail 3 (yellow dot) can be done all year round, regardless of weather and physical condition. For the route between Poiana Tapului and the Royal Sheepfold Hut, the marking starts from Poiana Tapului train station, unique on the Prahova Valley, in terms of the architectural style of German inspiration. Another popular trail starts from here to Urlatoarea Waterfall (blue dot, 1 hour).
The trail crosses Babei Valley (water source) and climbs to Plaiul Seciului plain. Further, you can admire the rock formations of "The Arrow and the Shield", then "The Cliff with Bells" from where you can see the beautiful and old Sinaia, Baiului Mountains, Piatra Mare and Postavaru Massif. Continue up towards the Royal Sheepfold Meadow and then reach the Royal Sheepfold Hut (1,270 m).
If you make a 5-minute detour through the forest, you reach Franz Joseph Rock, equipped with a balcony in 1896, when King Carol I himself came to this place with the Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary, Franz Joseph, to show him the beauty of the place. From here you can see Prahova Valley, Predeal, Busteni, Sinaia, but also Baiului Mountains with Cumpatu Peak.
