Şimon - Plaiul lui Lom - Poiana Guţanu - Şaua Strunga - Cabana Padina

Description

Padina Hut is situated at an elevation of 1,525 in an exceptional natural setting on Ialomita Valley, on Padina plateau at the foot of the Bucegi Mountains. Even if access to the area can be done by any means of transport, Padina remains an oasis of relaxation where you can camp in a tent and start on the many trails in the area.

One such trail is the red stripe trail that starts from the village of Simon, on Simon Valley, one of the most photogenic places in the country, sought by (few) tourists for the incredible beauty of the place, preserving and promoting  folk traditions, with an extraordinary panoramic view of Bucegi, Piatra Craiului and Postavaru mountains.

The trail follows Simon Valley from the church in Simon (connection with trail 24) on the paved road, which it leaves after the last houses to turn right on a bridge and continue on Lom Valley (connection with trail 25). There is a smooth climb on Plaiul lui Lom edge, for about an hour, crossing two long meadows with viewpoints to the distant peaks of the Leaota Mountains.

Continue to Gutanu Meadow and the intersection with trail 28 (yellow triangle, from Moeciu to Pestera) and then to the right on the ascending contour line in the upper part of Grohotis, Rea, Merez and Pravale valleys, where there is only one water source. Get into Strunga Saddle (1,909 m) (connection with trails 30 and 54) and about 5 minutes down to the east get to Strunga mountain hut. Continue downhill along the signposts and then on the road for articulated tractors to Padina Hut (1,509 m).
