From Piscul Negru Tourist Complex and Monastery, walk up the road next to the Transfagarasan high alpine road, to the north-northwest, along Paltinul stream and reach a Forest Lodge. From here, the trail crosses the river on a footbridge and continues on the right bank to a sheepfold. From here, get out of the forest and continue along the stream, through dwarf mountain pines. Reach the stream and the confluence of Platinul and Caltun creeks. Get to the intersection with the trail that descends from Caltun Mountain Hut towards Piscu Negru. The path is hard to find and it gets lost through the rich vegetation. Trail markers are scarce. Walk around several small rapids, steep along the stream, slightly to the right. Walk up on a small flat glacial threshold, a small glacial cirque, where you leave the area with dwarf mountain pines. A gradual ascent along the stream, below Laitel Peak, takes you to the intersection with the trail that connects Caltun Mountain Hut to the Transfagarasan high alpine road, near the tunnel. Climb on the right bank of the valley until you reach the flat part of Paltinul Valley. A steep ascent takes you on the grassy slopes of the valley, directly to the north, to the intersection with the ridge trail between Balea Lake Hut and Caltun Mountain Hut, below Turnul Paltinului Peak.
