This is the second longest trail after the main ridge trail (1 – red stripe) and it is the Calimani caldera loop trail. The starting point is on 174F road, at the exit from Neagra Sarului towards Gura Haitii, at an elevation of about 980 m. Next to an information board with the map of the Calimani Mountains and a signpost with the red dot marking, turn right and enter a narrow paved road. After 3 km, the asphalt ends and you continue a little to the right on Apa Rece brook. Climb through the forest, between the trees, through areas where the path is not obvious, not even visible. This section requires extra caution as the markers are quite scarce. After approx. 3 km, reach Apa Rece Meadow, where you can camp and there is also a spring. This is also the intersection with the blue triangle trail (trail 42) and the blue dot trail (trail 48). Turn left behind the resting place, and from here to the Hermitage (12 Apostles), approx. 4 km, join the blue dot marking, mostly between dwarf pines. Walk past the cliffs and trail 48 (blue dot) goes down through the forest to the left. Walk for 45-60 minutes to Piatra Rosie Meadow and the intersection with trail 46 (blue cross). From here to below Tamau Peak, the two markings (red dot and blue cross) climb together gently for approx. 2 km, up to 1800 m. The blue cross trail veers off to the right, and the red dot trail continues ahead, mostly on the contour line, for another 7 km. This is the intersection with trail 49 (yellow dot) that comes from Dornisoara, and trail 26 (blue stripe), which goes to the Heroes Monument in Grui. (A return detour to the Monument would take about 40 minutes). A short descent takes you to Izvoarele Meadow, where there is a spring on the right side of the path, and the intersection with trail 45 (red cross) that comes from the left, from Gura Haitii. The next 5 km are on a footpath, between dwarf pines, with alternating ascents and descents, until you reach Negoiul Saddle. This is the intersection with the main ridge trail (1 – red stripe) and trail 27 (blue cross), which descends to Lunca Bradului on Mures Valley. There is also a spring and a resting place where you can put 1-2 tents. From here to Voivodesei Saddle, the red dot trail is clear and well marked and it runs together with the main ridge trail (red stripe), past Nicovala Saddle, Ratitis Peak and below Bradul Ciont Peak. In Voievodesei Saddle, 36.5 km from the starting point, trail 1 (red stripe) turns right and the red dot marking continues straight ahead, together with another red stripe marking (trail 41), which descends to Paltinis village. There is a 30-40 minute climb on Iezerul Calimanului Peak, at an elevation of 2032 m, and then another 3 km to Calimanul Cerbului Peak (2013 m). Go down slightly to the right, below the peak, and after a few hundred meters, turn left next to a signpost, where the two markings (red dot and blue stripe) split. The gentle descent through the alpine zone (approx. 2 km) is followed by another 7 km down on a tractor road through the forest to Neagra Sarului ski slope, and then on an alley to 174F road, closing the loop trail after a total of 49.3 km.
